Hello, my name is Penny Perkins. I am the Children's Minister at Westside Baptist Church. God has led me to a position that I never dreamed I would have and I'm loving every minute of it! I LOVE ministering to children and families at Westside.
I'm a graduate of Murray State University with my Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education followed by my Masters in the same area.
I enjoy sewing, crafting, and spending time with my husband, Aaron, and my two girls, Makenna (age 13) and Olivia (age 10).
What Is Awana?
Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed (2 Timothy 2:15)
AWANA is an international ministry which partners with churches to reach boys and girls with the Gospel of Christ and disciple them that they may know and serve Him. AWANA provides age-appropriate and engaging Bible lessons, exciting games, Bible memorization, affirmation and encouragement from leaders and positive relationships with other clubbers. AWANA is for our 2 year olds - 5th graders.
Our children who have finished 3rd-5th grades are invited to join us for a fun-filled week where we focus on our relationship with Christ and ways to know Him more. The children participate in individual quiet time, Bible study, track times fit for their interests, worship and songs just to name a few.
We have 3 choirs (Preschool, K/1, and Children's Choir) that work on their Christmas programs August through December. They practice on Wednesday nights, 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. The choirs present their programs on the 2nd Sunday night in December. The programs are always amazing and "must see" shows!
e-worship (elementary worship) meets during part of the morning worship service on Sundays to provide age-appropriate and Bible lesson delivery. Children in grades K - 5 will be dismissed during the worship service following the music portion and can be picked up in the e-worship room at the back of the gym following the service. The children are actively involved in all portions of e-worship to promote understanding and application of Bible lessons and concepts.
Revolution is a missions and service focused program that our preschoolers and children participate in during the summer of May - August on Wednesday nights. We learn about missions, how we are missionaries, how we can help missionaries and serve others in our church, community, state, country and world.
TNT's are "totally nutty trips" that our 2nd - 5th graders are invited to attend during the summer. Our travelers join in fellowship with others to fun and exciting places. Some of the trips we have taken in the past are: Mammoth Cave, Skyzone in Jackson, Nashville Zoo and LBL hiking and camping.
Vacation Bible School is an amazing opportunity for children to come and participate in games, songs, Bible study, and FUN. The children will be in small mixed aged groups as they travel to various stations that teach and reinforce the Bible lesson and point for the night. Dinner is provided.
WOOHOO!! We love Wednesday Night Palooza (WNP)! Our preschoolers and children are immersed into themed nights that incorporate Bible lessons / concepts on Wednesday nights, January - April, 6:30 - 7:30 p.m.
